The Erasmus+ Program enables students enrolled in higher education institutions to receive part of their education in higher education institutions abroad, which are partners owing to an interinstitutional agreement. Students who attend the program have the right to receive financial support (grant). The grants do not aim to cover all the costs of the participants but contribute to their expected costs.
In order for students of the Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Science and Letters to participate in the LLP/Erasmus+ Program, which allows for education at universities in European Union countries for one or two semesters, the equivalence of undergraduate courses with the European Union Notation Transfer System (ECTS) was established in 2001.
According to the Istanbul Kültür University Senate Decisions dated April 5, 2012 and January 22, 2015 regarding the establishment of equivalences of grading systems between Istanbul Kültür University and partner universities, it has been concluded that:
- Table 1 is taken as the reference for the course transfers of outgoing students of Istanbul Kültür University,
- Table 2 is taken as the reference for the grades of the courses of incoming international students,
- For partner universities of Istanbul Kültür University that do not use the ECTS grading system and do not provide the conversion of the local grading system to the ECTS grading system, a joint decision proposal of the relevant departments and the European and International Relations Center is prepared and submitted to the approval of the Senate in order to be able to establish equivalences on a university basis.

The cooperation between İKÜ and European Union universities has been maintained and improved through student exchanges every year since the 2004-2005 Academic Year.
The duration of the program can be between 3 to 12 months (1, 2 or 3 semesters depending on the systems of certain countries) which may be completed separately at each education level within the same academic year. The education level refers to associate/undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels.
